Nothing beats the feeling of curling up in bed with your favorite book. With that being said, here are some of my top book recommendations. Not to worry, I have included picks from every genre -- there is something for everyone!
FANTASY
Throne of Glass by Sarah Maas.
Until recently, fantasy was a genre I had not read in YEARS (throwback to The Maze Runner, Divergent, Hunger Games, etc.). However, I recently rediscovered the genre and Throne of Glass is my current read! Throne of Glass is the first book in an eight book series and I am totally hooked. I will say it is one of those books where you either love or hate it but if you are going to give fantasy a try this series is a wonderful starting point. The language is easily digestible and incorporates a perfect mix between human and fantasy elements. Also just a heads up this is a LENGTHY novel so buckle your seat belt, grab your favorite bev/snack, and hold on for the ride.
DRAMA/PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
I had trouble putting this one is a category because it has a little bit of everything. There is a lot of moving parts here as the book switches between the point of view of different members of the Riva family. This book explores themes of public image versus personal reality. All members of the Riva family have careers that place them in the public eye. Unfortunately, this fame is a double edged sword as their struggles and failures also are under spotlight. I love the originality of this storyline & the character development - I have never read anything quite like it!
ROMANCE
Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover.
Some may say that Colleen's books are overhyped but I truly believe the hype is well deserved. She dominates the romance genre and I am here for it! Reminders of Him is one of her more under rated books but I cannot recommend it enough. I like that it explores two types of "romantic" relationships: the bond between two lovers but also the bond between a mother and her child. Reminders of Him dives into the factors that keep people away from each other and the lengths people go through to break down barriers and mend broken relationships with their loved ones.
MEMOIR
I'm Glad my Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy.
This book is truly a masterpiece! The wildest part-"based on a true story." Getting a glimpse into the dark personal life of one of my favorite childhood actors was a nail-biting experience and gave me a whole new perspective on family. Jennette's story explores her abusive familial and professional relationships and how these relationships led to her self destructive behavior.
SELF HELP
The Subtle Art of not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson.
This is an insightful self help-type book that felt almost like attending therapy. Insightful, witty & interesting, this book is a turn pager and gained so much praise that it has a sequel! Just give it a read. For your own good. That is all I am going to say.
